Baumer, Herman 1850 - 1932

Clayton County Register, Thur., 19 May 1932.

Herman Baumer was born in Germany July 31, 1850. When but a little boy he came to America with his parents. On board ship his mother died and was buried at sea. His father resided at a place about two and one-half miles from Clayton and Herman Baumer attended the old log school near the Louis Troester farm. For about forty years he lived with the family of Mrs. W. Beacom. About 60 years ago he came to Clayton and resided there until he was taken to the Postville hospital, where he died Sunday, May 8th. He was an engineer in the Clayton flour mills and also in the Clayton excelsior mills and on a ferry crossing the Mississippi river. For many years he was the sexton of Clayton cemetery. He had one brother and two sisters. His age was 81 years, ten months and six days. Rev. G. J. Zeilinger conducted services at the home, where a large number of Mr. Baumer's friends and fellow church members had gathered. The A.F. & A.M. had the burial service at the cemetery. Burial was in the Clayton cemetery.
