Clayton County Register, Thur. 12 May 1932. Strawberry Point column.
Mrs. Sarah Blanchard, nee Sarah Ludy, daughter of Adam and Lydia Ludy, was born near Freeport, Ill., Nov. 14, 1859, and died at her home in Strawberry Point May 6, 1932, after a short illness. In 1872 she moved with her parents to a farm in Lodomillo township, Clayton county, Iowa. Mar. 11, 1880, she was united in marriage to William Judson Blanchard at Edgewood, Iowa. Six children were born to this union, four of whom are left to mourn her passing, three sons and one daughter, Charles L., Bert L. and William Judson of Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Minnie Pemberton of Whitewater, Wis. Her husband and two daughters, Jessie L. and Rena, preceded her in death. For fifty years Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard traveled life's pathway together, and together shared life's joys and sorrows. The first two years of their married life were spent on a farm near Delhi, later moving to a home east of Strawberry point, and in 1900 moved to town, where she has resided ever since. Her entire life was devoted to her home, sacrificing her own pleasures for her family and others. When Rena died, leaving a tiny baby, Saretta, she assumed the responsibility of her care for several years. Later her aged mother came into her home, even though her later years were so filled with family cares she was always thoughtful of her other grandchildren and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone. Besides her children she is survived by eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev T. J. Elwick, pastor of the M.E. church. The pallbearers were her three sons, grandson, son-in-law and nephew: Chas., Bert, W. J., and Burton Blanchard, Raymond Pemberton and Lewis Weeks. Interment took place in the family lot of the local cemetery.
