Funeral services of Mrs. Richard Alderson, of Waterloo, occurred at the M.E. church last Wednesday afternoon conducted by the St. Paul M.E. church pastor, Rev. Thomas Shaffer of Waterloo, assisted by the local pastor, Rev. T. J. Elwick. Two selections of the deceased, "In The Garden," and "Some Day We'll Understand," were sung by a male quartet composed of Rev. T. J. Elwick, B. W. Talcott, Eldon Stafford and W. A. Luce, with Miss Eva Preston at the organ. The pall bearers were: C. E. Lang, Winnie Nace, Harve Laity, Lee Malone, Omar Malone and Leslie Davis. Interment took place in the family lot of the local cemetery. Mrs. Alderson, nee Nellie Hesner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hesner, was born on a farm five miles northeast of town Sept 11, 1886, and grew to womanhood. On Feb. 22, 1905, she was united in marriage to Richard Alderson, also of Strawberry Point. To this union three children were born: Myrwin, Bernadine and Novallean. Bernadine died in infancy, her father, Geo. Hesner, April 29, 1917, and one brother, Morris Hesner, March 8, 1928, preceded her in death. Besides her husband, son and daughter, she is survived by her sorrowing mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Hesner, Strawberry Point; three sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Carl (Lillie) Gamm, Waverly; Mrs. M. J. (Vera) Martin, Volga; Mrs. G. D. (Frette) Eckhart, Marion; Dr. George Hesner, Manila City, Philippine Islands; Claire Hesner, Independence, and Harold Hesner, Strawberry Point. Mrs. Alderson had been sick with influenza this winter, which later developed into a severe attack of pleurisy and heart trouble and she died at her home, 919 West Second street, Waterloo, Monday, March 28, 1932, where the family had resided for three and one-half years. All that loving hands and medical skill could do was done for her and she was always cheerful. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church at Grundy Center, where the family resided for five years, and where she held membership in the Brotherhood of American Yeomen, Rebekah lodge, W.R.C. and O.E.S. In Waterloo Mrs. Alderson was affiliated with the American Legion Auxiliary and Gold Leaf Lodge, R.N. of A. Brief services were held Wednesday morning at the Kistner chapel, Waterloo.
