Memorial services for Larry Ryan of Glendora, Calif., formerly of Monona, were held Wednesday, October 28, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Monona, Iowa. Rev. Daniel Keppler offered the Mass and Barb Ruff was organist and soloist.

Lawrence Joseph Ryan, son of Emmett and Stella (Keenan) Ryan, was born March 1, 1934 at Waukon, Iowa. He passed away October 26, 1998 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines as a result of pancreatitis, his body was cremated.

He was baptized and received his First Communion at St. Patrick's Church, Waukon and was confirmed at St. Patrick's Church in Monona. Larry graduated in 1952 from Monona High School and after one year at Iowa State University, he served in the Marine Corps for three years. On April 26, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carolyn 'Kay' Gulick at the Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa. To this union four sons were born. Larry graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1959 and then taught science at Durant, Iowa for two years before moving to Glendora, California. The next thirty-four years he was employed in the Glendora Unified school district as a science teacher, and then, special education after receiving his Masters as the high school guidance councilor, retiring in 1995. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and spending summers at their cabin on the Mississippi at Burlington.

Surviving are his wife Carolyn 'Kay', four sons, Kevin of North Hollywood, Calif., David (wife Pam), Steven (wife Sally) and Paul, four grandsons, all of Glendora, Calif.; two sisters, Kathleen O'Hara of Decorah and Ethna Bartels of Prospect Heights, Ill.; and a brother, John and wife Marilyn of Monona, and a host of relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Alan.
