Clayton County Register, Thur., 4 Feb. 1932.
Elias Bergemeyer was born in Osin Tolgen, Norway, May 16, 1852, and died, January 30, 1932, aged 79 years, 8 months and 14 days, at the home of his son Joe in Nora Springs, Iowa.
He was united in marriage June 17, 1876, to Gea Johnson, also of Osin Tolgen, Norway. He and his family came to America in May 1887 and they spent the remainder of their lives in and around McGregor.
Two children departed this life in 1912, and he was bereft of his beloved wife, April 27, 1927. Since then he has made his home in Nora Springs. Grandpa Bergemeyer as he was generally called was not sick very long so his departure was unexpected. All was done for him that could be but his work was finished and God called him home to where he will be reunited with his loved ones who have gone before. Grandpa was often lonely for his old friends, his church and McGregor and would often say how he missed them.
He leaves in passing, two sons, Embert of Elkader, Iowa, and Joe of Nora Springs, Ia.; four grandchildren, Clinton, Frederick, Marjorie and Norma, who with other relatives and a host of friends will miss his pleasing smile and kindly greeting.
The funeral was held February 1st, 1932, from the Norwegian church south of McGregor, by the Rev. S. J. Strandjord.
