Clayton County Register, Thur., 7 Jan. 1932.
William Earl Wells was born June 23, 1898, at Omaha, Neb, where the family lived for some time.
When war was declared in 1917 he was the first one to enlist in Shenandoah, Iowa, in Co. K21. In service of his country three years and four months he received his honorable discharge.
On June 12, 1929, he was married to Lavina Dean at North Buena Vista. One child, Earl Ray, was born to this union.
They came to Colesburg a year ago last March and Mr. Wells was engaged as a blacksmith. His genial disposition soon won for him a large number of friends in this community.
His father, one brother, and one sister preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his sudden death his bereaved wife, and son Earl Roy, his step-mother, four half-brothers, Russel of Manchester, Wilbur, who is in the U.S. Navy, Franklin and Lyman, of Colesburg, and one half-sister at home here in Colesburg, besides a host of friends.
