Michael McCarthy died at his home in Ion, Saturday, Aug. 7, 1909 at 7:30 p.m., at the age of 95 years.

Mr. McCarthy was born in County Mayo, Ireland in 1814 and came to America in 1845. He was married to Miss Mary Schofield at Prairie du Chien and the couple settled on the homestead near Ion in 1857, where they have resided for the past 52 years.

There were born to these good people, seven children, three daughters having preceded their father to the grave; four sons, John of San Diego, Cal., William of Minneapolis, James of Rockford, Iowa, and George at Ion; with the aged mother, are left to mourn the death of husband and father.

Mr. McCarthy was, perhaps, one of the oldest settlers in Allamakee county, and has always been held in highest esteem by his neighbors and friends. The funeral services were held in St. Patrick's church in Monona, Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial in Catholic cemetery.
