Elkader Register, Thur., 28 Feb. 1901. Elkport and Vicinity column.

How Sad ! Only 24 years old and such a good man, and many more such expressions were uttered when it became known that Peter Flaherty Jr., a son of our beloved townsman, Peter Flaherty, had died. The deceased was born in Elkport in the year 1877 and was a son of Peter and Mary Flaherty. About a year ago he was attacked by that dread disease consumption, and the best of medical aid was unable to check the ravages of the disease. Little Pete, as he was generally known, was a whole souled, genial man, beloved by all with whom he became acquainted, and his death has cast a gloom over our community. He was married to Anna Smith, who with one child survive him. To the bereaved parents, wife and fatherless child, our community extends its deepest sympathy. May the Lord in his infinite goodness guide and protect them in the future. Mr. Flaherty died Saturday morning and was buried Monday, Father Minogue officiating. The funeral was very largely attended.
