Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Feb. 1901. Littleport column.

Mr. J. Refle died Sunday after a lingering illness. He leaves an aged wife and family of grown-up children to mourn his decease. He was one of the old residents of this place and has always been honored, respected and loved by all. The funeral was held Tuesday and was very large, the remains being laid to rest in the cemetery here.

Michael Refle, the father of Mrs. John Friend, of this place, died at his home near Littleport, Sunday, at the age of 76 years. The funeral services were held Tuesday, Rev. Fritschel, of Elkport, officiating.

(Note: WPA records show him as Michael Refle, 1825 - 10 Feb. 1901, buried in Union cemetery.)
