Elkader Register, Thur., 8 Aug. 1901.

At the family residence in this place on Monday evening Aug. 5th, occurred the death of Mrs. Chas. Gilbert. She had been a sufferer for many years but at the last she passed away suddenly.

Betsy Benson Gilbert was born at Pomfret, Windsor county, Vt., July 2d, 1822, and died at the advanced age of 79 years. She was married to Charles Gilbert in 1847. In 1867 they came to Clayton county, where they have since resided. For the past thirty-seven years Mrs. Gilbert has been an invalid and was little known outside her home circle. She leaves an aged husband and two daughters, Clara who resides at home and Mrs. N. A. Simmons, of Strawberry Point.

The funeral service was held at the house yesterday afternoon after which her remains were taken to Strawberry Point for interment.
