William Cheeseman.
On Saturday, June 16th, 1901, at his residence in Boardman twp. occurred the death of Wm. Cheeseman at the advanced age of 79 years, 5 months and 25 days.
Deceased was a native of England and emigrated to this country in his early boyhood, first locating in the state of Ohio. He married Miss Mary Ann Underwood, at Cleveland, and they moved to Clayton county, Iowa, in 1852, and located on what is now known as "The Old Homestead." At about the age of thirty, he united with the Methodist Episcopal church, and remained a faithful and active member to the end. A few days before his death he told his pastor that he was going home and that they would meet in heaven.
Four children survive, George of Arlington, Absalom of Strawberry Point, Daniel and Mrs. Reinholt Meisner, of Boardman twp.
The funeral procession formed at the house, and many of his friends and neighbors joined with his children, in paying their last tribute of respect and love to the departed.
The sermon was preached at the Methodist church by Rev. W. J. Stowers from the text, "Blessed are the dead, which die in the Lord." Then the friends and loved ones gathered around the open grave, in the city of the dead, and laid him beside his wife who died Jan. 27th, 1900.
