One of the oldest and most respected citizens of this county was called from among us on Sunday evening, June 2nd, at his home at Mederville. August Bendschneider was born in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, in the year 1818, being at the time of his death 82 years, 9 months and 4 days old. He was married to Sophia Meder in the year 1851, ten children being born of this union and all preceding them to the grave. He came to America and Clayton county in 18__ where he has since resided.

Mr. Bendschneider was a man of untiring industry, ever radiating with sympathy and good cheer inspired by upright motives cultivating the supreme confidence of all whose pleasure it was to know him in life. He leaves an aged wife to mourn his death.

The funeral services were held at two p.m., Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Braun of Farmersburg, the remains being laid to rest in the Mederville cemetery.
