Elkader Register, Thur., 2 May 1901. Volga City News column.
Euphamia Muir was born in Muirkirk, Ayreshire, Scotland, March 8th, 1823, and was united in marriage to James Probert July 8th, 1842. To this couple eight children were born, three daughters and five sons, all of whom are living with the exception of the son Richard.
In the year 1850 Mr. and Mrs. Probert came to America and settled in Pittsburg, Pa., where they resided for five years. From Pennsylvania they came to Clayton county, Iowa, where they have ever since made their home. Mrs. Probert made a public profession of her faith by uniting with the Presbyterian (Established) church of Scotland at an early age and remained steadfast in her profession until death, having lived 78 years, 1 month and 21 days, and in companionship with her husband 58 years, 7 months and 21 days.
Mrs. Probert had been suffering for some weeks and all that medical skill and kind and willing hands could do for her were of no avail. The funeral took place Wednesday and was the first in the new Presbyterian church, which was filled to its full capacity with sympathizing friends.
