After an illness of several months Xavier Lamm was released of his suffering and passed away at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Stich, at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, July 30th, 1901. He was the son of Arbogast and Mary Ann Lamm, both deceased, and was born April 24, 1838, in Erie county, N.Y. He came to Clayton county with his parents in 1853, and resided here until about 1874 when he located at Harlan, Ia. He married Rosalia B. Shelhamer, who died Jan. 12th, 1885, leaving two children, Louis and Jessie, the latter dying in April, 1889.
For several years Mr. Lamm has been out of active business and made his home either at Elkader or Harlan. He was a quiet, unassuming man, a pleasant companion and generous to his friends and family.
Besides Louis, the surviving son, he leaves four sisters, Mrs. Theresa Stich, of Elkader, Mrs. Elizabeth Shaffer, of Clermont, and Mrs. M. Steyer and Mrs. Mary Higgens, of Decorah, and three brothers, Joseph of Elkader, Henry of Harlan, Iowa, and Edward of Watertown, S.D., with other relatives to mourn his demise.
The funeral was held this morning at St. Joseph's church, solemn high mass being celebrated by Rev. Father Peickert, of Dubuque, assisted by Fathers Coyle, of Cedar Falls, O'Donall of McGregor , and Reilly, of Elkader.

Pioneers Passing Away
Xavier Lamm died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Stich, of Elkader, on Tuesday, July 30th. He was born in Erie county, New York, in 1838, and came to Clayton county in 1853. He was the brother of Mrs. Geo. Higgins and Mrs. Michael Steyer of this city.Transcriber’s Note: Iowa Gravestone Photos show he is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elkader.
