Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Dec. 1901.
At the home of his son-in-law in St. Olaf, Monday evening, Dec. 9th, occurred the death of Lars C. Hulverson, one of the pioneer Norwegian residents of this county.
Mr. Hulverson was born in Norway, Jan. 23, 1819, and married and spent his early days in that land. In 1859 he emigrated to America, coming direct to this county and has ever since made it his home, most of the time in Read township. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hulverson, eight of whom with the wife are left to mourn his death. They are John C., at Miller, Iowa, Lars, superintendent of the asylum at Elkader, Gilbert at St. Olaf and Mrs. Nelson, of St. Olaf, Mrs. Larson and Mrs. Evenson, of Miller, Ia., Mrs. Chas. Johnson, of Forest City, Mrs. Faber, of Read. Mr. Hulverson was one of those rugged pioneer citizens to whom this county is much indebted for the industry and patience with which they met problems of its developments. Their honesty and unflagging industry have left a mark on the county's history.
The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the Norway church in Wagner.
