Clayton County Journal, Wed. 22 Oct. 1873.
DIED.
Saturday morning, October 19th, 1873, at the house of his parents, John C., oldest son of J. C. and Clara Vaupel, in the 22nd year of his age.
John was a young man of good promise, ambitious to work out his own way in the world notwithstanding the affluence of friends, and his loss is keenly felt, not alone by the father and mother and sisters and brother who tenderly contributed all it was possible to do for his comfort during long illness, but by a wide circle of young associates. His disease was consumption, which began its work about eight months ago. The funeral was largely attended, at the house Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. F. Harwood, of the Methodist church, officiated.
There is something very sad about the thought of just opening the door of manhood to step into the grave, yet who can doubt that some higher Power must some how work good out of it all.
Note: burial is East Side cemetery, Lot 3
