Walter Everitt, son of Richard John Everitt and Martha Revell Everitt, was born in Stetham, England, April 21, 1885, and died at the Manchester hospital Jan. 9, 1959.
He came to the United States and to the vicinity of Volga June 16, 1906, at the age of 21. For a few years he worked as a farm hand while learning the methods of farming in this country.
On Feb. 15, 1911, he was married to Mabel Thyer, the Rev. Samuel Bear, pastor of the Methodist Church, performing the ceremony. They established their home on what is known as the Blair farm, where they lived for two years. They then moved to an adjoining farm, which they purchased, and where they lived for many years. Their son Stanley now owns that farm.
In 1937 they moved to a new home in Volga, giving over the operation of the farm to their son, Stanley.
His wife, Mabel, died Aug. 29, 1941.
On Oct. 18, 1942, he was married to Jessie Page at Volga, who survives, together with his son Stanley, one grandson, Jerry, a step-grandson, Dennis Carter, three step-sons, LeRoy Page, Monticello, Warren Page, Cedar Falls, and Sidney Page, Wyandotte, Mich., one brother, Ebenezer Everitt, and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Staines, Mrs. Ethel White and Mrs. Lillian Wheeler, all of England. His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him.
Services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. E. J. Starr of Hopkinton conducting the service. Rev. Starr, a former Volga Methodist minister, was a close friend of Mr. Everitt. Mrs. Melvin Gregerson, pianist, accompanied Mrs. Archie Fox of Strawberry Point, vocalist. Casket bearers were: Mainard Druecker, Richard Puffett, Willard Crandall, Oliver Follon, Albert Duff and Luke Little. Flower bearers were Mrs. Arthur Voshell and Mrs. Albert Duff.
Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
