Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 14, 1959, at 2 p.m. at the Peace United Church of Christ, Evangelical and Reformed, for George Taake with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Leroy Taake, Aaron Tieden, Waldo Taake, Carl Kelpien, Arno Glawe and Herbert Katschowsky.
George Carl Taake, son of William and Wilhelmina Strattemeier Taake, was born March 1, 1875, in Read Township, Clayton County, and died at his home in Elkader April 11, 1959, at the age of 84 years, one month and ten days.
Mr. Taake spent his entire life in Clayton County. He was born and reared on a farm one mile south of Clayton Center and received his education at the rural school and was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Center by the late Rev. F. W. Seifert.
He was married to Ellen Buckman Oct. 11, 1899, at the home of her parents. They were the parents of two daughters.
They farmed until 1924, when they retired and moved to Elkader.
His wife Ellen preceded him in death Sept. 7, 1934.
In 1935 Mr. Taake was married to Lottie Reinhardt of Elkader.
He was in failing health for the past three years and a little over a year ago underwent surgery. For a short time he regained some of his strength but failed again and was confined to his bed for two weeks before his death.
During his active life he served for a number of years as treasurer of the Clayton Center cemetery and director of the township school.
He was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, Evangelical and Reformed, Elkader.
Mr. Taake is survived by his wife Lottie and two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Pearl) Marmann and Mrs. Albert (Selma) Schaub, both of Elkader; one brother, August, Elkader; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
