Funeral rites were held at the Malta Lutheran Church, Malta, Mont., Saturday, March 28, for Jansey Tieden, 83, one of Phillips County's first homesteaders and a farmer in the Whitewater and Wagner areas for many years. Death occurred at the Malta hospital March 26 following a cerebral hemorrhage in the early morning hours. The Rev. Norman Wick conducted the services.
Jansey Tieden was born May 1, 1875, at Elkader, the son of Jans and Anna (Bowman) Tieden. He was one of 11 children. On Dec. 12, 1900, he was married at Elkader to Lydia Wistrick.
He engaged in farming in Iowa and in 1910 went to Montana. He homesteded 20 miles north of Saco, where they made their home until 1936 when they moved to the Wagner area. In 1942 they moved to Puyallup, Wash., returning to Malta in 1955 where they resided at the time of his death.
Survivors are Mrs. Tieden; a son, Erwin Tieden of Puyallup; a daughter, Mrs. Lochiel Edwards of Malta; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Lewis Tieden of Elkader, and one sister, Mrs. Hans Lehfeldt of Big Sandy, Mont.
