Peter J.C. Mundt was born at Grebs, Mecklinberg Schuerin [sic], Germany, December 24, 1820 and died July 10, 1902, at his home in Giard, Iowa.

August 26, 1853, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Jacobs. Eleven children were born to them - six of which preceded the father in death.

In the month of September they arrived in this state, and in October of the same year located here at Giard, which has since been their home.

There remain to mourn his loss, his wife and five children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.F. Hartke at the M.E. Church, where a large circle of relatives and friends gathered to pay their respects to the departed. Interment in the Giard cemetery.

-His year of arrival in Iowa was not given in the obit, but the 1900 U.S. census gives 1869 as arrival to United States
-Although the obituary gives his name as Peter J.C., he is found in census as Christian Mundt & his gravestone is engraved "Christian"
