Lewis Tiede, son of Jans and Anna Baumann Tieden, was born Aug. 5, 1881, in Cox Creek Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died on the same farm Tuesday morning, June 9, 1959, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 4 days.

He had been in failing health for a number of years and for the past two years was confined to his home.

Mr. Tieden was married Sept. 29, 1915, to Grace Fisher, Edgewood, by the late Rev. C. H. Franke. After his marriage he continued to farm on the farm where he was born until he was forced to retire because of ill health.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aug 26, 1954, four brothers and five sisters. He is survived by two children, Mrs. Clarence (Arrah Lavon) Polkow of Read Township, and Dale on the home farm; one sister, Mrs. Anna Lehfeldt, Big Sandy, Mont.; and two grandchildren, Karen and Keith Polkow.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 12, at 2 p.m. at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alvin Klink, Jake Steen, John Stence, V. C. Wright, Les Klink and Earl Whittle.
