Funeral services for Miss Mildred Bente were held Tuesday, August 4, at 10 a.m. in the Major funeral parlors at Mason City and at the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, Elkader, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was at the East Side cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wm. Dahling, Carl Dahling, Lester Schulte, Merritt Hamilton, Ralph Bente and Elmer Bente.

Miss LoRene Lenth and Mrs. Lester Schulte were in charge of the floral bouquets. Miss Marcia Bush was the soloist and Mrs. Jean Welsh the organist.

Mildred Marie Bente, daughter of Louis and Ida Bente, was born Dec. 17, 1894, and died at the Park Hospital, Mason City, Sunday morning, Aug. 1.

After graduating from the Elkader high school and attending the University of Iowa, she devoted her life to instructing children in public schools. She began her teaching career in 1914 at Clayton Center. During the following years she taught at Volga, Everly, Dumont and Lohrville. In 1924 she moved to Mason City, where she made her home and taught in the Madison and Roosevelt elementary schools for 35 years. Although in ill health a number of months, she was determined to finish this last school year.

Mildred was confirmed and accepted as a member of the Elkader Evangelical Church at the age of 14. Since she was making her home in Mason City, she recently transferred her membership to the First Congregational Church.

She is survived by her mother, who has been making her home with her the past few years; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Pfaltzgraff of Dumont and Mrs. Arthur Jensen of Osage; and a brother, Irving Bente of Dumont; three nieces three nephews and a host of friends and relatives.

Those attending from a distance besides the afore named relatives were: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pfaltzgraff, Dennis and Douglas, Robert Pfaltzgraff and the Misses Carol and Virginia Pfaltzgraff, Dumont; Art Jensen and Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Jensen, Mrs. Clarence Jensen, Mrs. Maurine Moore and Selmer Johnson, Osage; Glen Bente, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Wilke, Fayette; Miss Clara Sagen, Mason City; Mrs. George Bothel, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kubista and Marlene, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Minges and Mr. and Mrs. Christ Horn, Owatonna, Minn.; Mrs. Vassar and Mrs. Hinson, Minneapolis, Minn.; and other friends and relatives from neighboring towns.
