Ellen C. Johansen, daughter of Johanna Tollefson and Thomas T. Olson, was born March 5, 1913, on a farm near St. Olaf. She received her first eight years of education in the rural schools of Wagner township. She also attended high school in Elgin and Elkader. She was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran Church near St. Olaf.
On April 9, 1932, she was united in marriage to John Johansen at the Little Brown Church near Nashua.
The following children were born to them: Garry Lee, Des Moines; Jean (Mrs. Garie Duncan), Cedar Rapids; Thomas, Chicago, and Karen, Lamont.
She spent the early years of her married life on a farm near Gunder, Iowa. In 1942 they moved to a farm near Lamont. In 1944 they moved to Lamont where she has resided since. For the last two years she has owned and operated the New Home Café in Lamont.
In addition to the four children who survive, there are four brothers, Gordon Olson, Arlington; Selmer Olson, Volga City; Paul, Decorah; Thomas, Des Moines, and also two sisters, Mrs. Lorence Leonard, Elkader, and Mrs. Dewell Phillips, Evansdale; also three grandchildren, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Olson of Strawberry Point and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The funeral was held at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point with burial at the Strawberry Point cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Stewart, Chuck Hayford, Clem Friedman and Fritz Verbugt, Lamont, Verni Olson, Volga City, and Vern Trudo, Luana.
