Almina B. Orvis, daughter of Embret and Magdalene Knudson, was born Dec. 16, 1880, at Strawberry Point. She died in a Prairie du Chien hospital Nov. 6, 1959, at the age of 78 years and eleven months.
She attended school in St. Olaf and was a resident of the town most of her life.
On Sept. 21, 1907, she was married to Herbert Orvis, and they made their home in St. Olaf. She joined the Norway Lutheran Church through adult baptism and was a member of this congregation and of the St. Olaf Ladies Aid at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Elmer Knudson and William Carney, and one sister, Laura.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma Olson, Clermont, and Mrs. Clara Wilke, St. Olaf; one brother, Earl Knudson, St. Olaf; one nephew and five nieces.
Funeral services were held at Norway Lutheran Church Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1959, at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Norway Church cemetery. Services were conducted by Pastor Bruce Boyce.
The pallbearers were Harvey Busch, Alvin Larson, John Larson, Orvin Embretson, Alonzo Engelhardt, Vernett Embretson and Harry Herrick.
