Funeral services for George Gerdes, 88, retired Strawberry Point farmer, were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. Burial was in Strawberry Point cemetery.

George Gerdes, son of John and Etta Margarete (Johnson) Gerdes, was born Oct. 22, 1871, at Hanover, Germany. He came to this country at an early age and was married to Charlotte Wessels on May 31, 1895, at Langworthy, Iowa. He lived most of his life in the Strawberry Point vicinity.

He was preceded in death by his wife, four sons, two grandsons, three sisters and one brother. Survivors include his two sons, Harm and Henry, both of Strawberry Point, and a half-brother, Ricklef Rose, also of Strawberry Point, as well as three granddaughters, two grandsons, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
