Clarence Peterson was born in Wagner township Aug. 8, 1900, a son of Peter T. and Sarah Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran Church.
He received his early education in the public schools of the township and the high school at Elkader. He worked with his mother on the farm, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and stayed in the service for four years.
On March 8, 1928, he was married to Stella Johnson. To this union were born five children. They resided in New York for two years, after which they moved to St. Olaf, where he was postmaster. Later he moved to Dubuque, where he was employed by Farley and Loescher until his health failed.
He died Oct. 9 after a series of operations. He became a polio victim at the age of 56. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves his wife Stella, three sons, Peter, Freddie and Larry, and two daughters, Bernice, Mrs. Stan Rabey, and Norma Jean, Mrs. Clifford Treanor, all of Dubuque; a sister, Mrs. Bea Fuelling, and one brother, Thomas Peterson of Farmersburg; nine grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at the Haudenschild funeral home, Dubuque, at 2:30 Sunday, Oct. 11, with the Rev. Herman Senft of St. Matthew's Church officiating. Burial was at Linwood cemetery, Dubuque. The following were pallbearers: Don Houg, Lorimer Fuelling, Harold Peterson, Luver Palas, Walde Embretson, and Wm. Herrmann.
