Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for L. C. Lenth, 81, prominent Holstein dairyman, who died Wednesday following a heart attack. Services were conducted at the Congregational Chistian Church in Elkader by the church pastor, the Rev. George Richter. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.

Miss Ann Oleson sang "Abide With Me" and "Lead, Kindly Light." Pallbearers were: Dan Barton, Edward Leonard, Vincent Stence, J. E. Shaffer, A. J. Johnson, L. J. Ehrhardt, Earl Patrick and Thor Fisko Jr.

Lenth was at work at his farm near the Elkader fairgrounds Wednesday morning, Nov. 25, when he was stricken. He was taken to General Hospital at Prairie du Chien, Wis., where he died late that afternoon.

At the time of his death Mr. Lenth was operating three farms, one in east Elkader, one at the north edge of town and one one and one-half miles north of town. He had been a resident of Elkader for the past 45 years and was well known as a farm and business leader.

As a subsidiary to his farming operations Lenth built a dairy, a locker plant and a feed mill in Elkader. After operating these himself for a time, he sold each of these businesses to other operators.

Louis Carl Lenth, son of Joseph and Urcella Zurcher Lenth, was born in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa, February 2, 1878. He was the seventh of a family of eight children.

He spent his childhood and youth on the farm of his parents near Monona and there received his education in the public school.

He was married to Emma Clara Blaha, September 24, 1901, at the Monona Methodist church and together they established a farm home near Monona where they farmed for six years. In 1907 they moved to Canada where they farmed until 1914 at which time they came to Elkader and entered business.

In 1930 they moved to a farm east of Elkader where they farmed until 1936 when they moved to Elkader and again entered business.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1956 and his parents, four brothers, Charles, William, George and Henry, and one sister, Bertha.

Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Marie Wahls of Elkader, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Rupp of Waukon and Mrs. Charles Haberichter of Monona.

Mr. Lenth was a member of the Holstein Friesian Association and a member of the board of trustees of the Elkader Congregational Christian Church.

Friends of the family served dinner to the family and friends in Friendship Hall at noon and lunch after the graveside services.
