Funeral services for Fred Thein were conducted Wednesday from his farm home to St. John's E. and R. church in Garber with the Rev. G. E. Hesse officiating.
Mr. Thein was born in Elk township Jan. 14, 1889, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thein.
On Dec. 29, 1915, he was united in marriage to Emma Barton in Elkader. They lived their entire life in this community.
Surviving are his wife Emma; four sons, Melvin of Guttenberg, Frederick of Marion, Lester of Elkport, and August at home; three daughters, Mrs. Wilber (Nelda) Wille of near Garber, Mrs. Donald (Bernice) Wold of St. Olaf, and Mrs. James (Bernita) Brady of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Pete of Elkader, and Joseph of Strawberry Point; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Winch and Mrs. Arthur Jennings, both of near Garber. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Charley, Frank, Martin and George, and three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Hansel, Mrs. Pearl Smock and Elsie Thein
Burial was made in Guttenberg City cemetery. Pallbearers were: Merlin Rutledge, Artur Willman, Anton Smith, Menlo Voss, Lawrece Waterman and James Amling.
