Arthur Chester Adams, 54, son of James and Mary Miller Adams was born at Elkader, Dec. 18, 1898, and died at a nursing home in Edgewood Sunday, June 28, at 8:40 a.m. When a young man he came to Volga with his parents and lived with them during their declining days. His mother died in 1933 and his father in 1945.
On April 23, 1948, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Hazel Egli, and they established their home here. On March 9, he was taken ill and for several weeks, was a patient at an Iowa City hospital.
Survivors include his wife and three step-sons, Raymond, James and Ronald Egli, Volga, also a son Eldon Adams by a former marriage; one brother Realto D. Adams of Massachusetts and two sisters, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Cornwell, Greeley, and Mrs. Morris (Ruby) Huntington, Cedar Rapids. Two brothers, Victor and _______ , and one sister, Mrs. Hazel Bailey, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist church, with the pastor, the Rev. Floyd R. Maynard officiating. Donald Whitford and Mrs. Leo Frether sang two hymns, "Transformed" and "Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross." Burial was in the Taylorsville cemetery near Arlington.
Casket bearers were: Frank Oldfather, Howard Borden, Ernest Smith, Oscar Andreae, Willard Crandall and Blair Kelly.
