FROM McGREGOR
Death of an Earlier Settlor
Special Correspondence to the Dubuque TimesMcGregor, March 21
Today A. T. Jones Esq., was buried. Mr. Jones had been a resident of McGregor and vicinity for twenty-seven years; was McGregor’s first mayor, an honorable and respected citizen in every way: at the time of his death he was engaged in the boot and shoe business in our city with his son T. O. Jones. The loss to the community can scarcely be estimated. Men of Mr. Jones character and standing are at present altogether too scarce. His last illness was long and painful. The congregation that gathered at the church today was unusually large, and there was a general and manifest feeling of sorrow and regret throughout the entire assembly. The sympathies of the community are heartily extended to the sorrowing family. Flags are at half mast, and business places generally closed, out of respect for the deceased.
