The sad intelligence reaches this place that Erastus Barnes, an old and popular citizen of Strawberry Point, committed suicide on Tuesday evening, Dec. 10th, 1878.

He has been considered as partially deranged for months past but no one thought him as likely to commit suicide. About 5 o’clock yesterday morning he was found suspended from a beam in his own barn, dead.

He was and old citizen, highly respected and widely known. He leaves an only son, his wife having died four or five years ago.

Burial: Strawberry Point Cemetery
Wife: Sophia Ware Barnes 1878-1874
Is also buried in Strawberry Point Cemetery
