Died her residence in Concord, Dodge county, Minn., on Wednesday, Nov. 27th, 1878 of Paralysis, Mrs. E. A. Reed, aged, 63 years.
Mrs. Reed, better known as Aunt Eliza Bayless, was born in Franklin county, Vermont, Oct. 15th, 1815, and while yet a girl removed with her parents, Josiah and Doras Davis, to Champaign county, Ohio, then a sparsely settled country, and in 1831 was married to Miles S. Bayless.
In 1835, with her husband and parents, she moved to Pendleton, Indiana, where her four children, now living, were born.
Here she lived unto 1853, when being a widow she came with her children to Postville, Iowa, and in 1855 was married to Thomas Reed, who died in 1857, after emigrating and settling near Concord, Minnesota.
Since that time she has lived on her farm, with the exception of 3 years, that she lived with her son at Elkader, Iowa. During the past summer she made her daughter at Sioux City, Iowa a long visit, and late in August returned to her Minnesota home in apparent good health.
She took a bad cold in October, got some better, but early in November had a stroke of paralysis implicating the right side and stomach. Her daughter at Sioux City and son at Elkader, were telegraphed for and hastened to her bedside where with the children who live in Minnesota they tenderly cared for the suffering mother, vainly hoping that she might be saved to them. The best medical aid was procured but it was all of no avail.
On the 27th of Nov., surrounded by her sorrowing children she breathed her last, her spirit released from the suffering body passed to that bourne of rest beyond the waters.
A large concourse of fiends followed the remains to the Concord Cemetery, on the 28th, where she was buried beside an only sister.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. E. Walker. She leaves four children F.D. Bayless, of Elkader, Mrs. Rosa B. McFaul, of Sioux City, Iowa, H.M. Bayless and Mrs. Sarah E. Bachtell, of Concord, Minnesota, to whom she was a most devoted and loving mother, and was happy to have them all at her bedside during her last few weeks on earth. An exemplary mother, a charitable friend and a kind neighbor has gone to her last home. May she rest in peace. May God raise on earth more of just such mothers.
