McGregor In Mourning -
The sad news is received of the death of Joseph Ramage, junior partner of leading drug firm of Peterson & Ramage, McGregor. Mr. Ramage had been siick but a few days, his disease was hemorrhage and inflammation, and finally an internal typhoid fever which baffled the skill of the most expert physicians. He died Tuesday morning. Mr. Ramage was a man of splendid business abilities, and through many years connected with the drug and grocery trade in McGregor, had become well and favorably known throughout the county, Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota. The house had just won the name "old reliable." Personally, Mr. Ramage was a man admired by all who knew him; we doubt if he had an enemy in the wide world; universally recognized as a noble, generous citizen, a thorough business man, and the friend and patron of all good works. His loss is a severe blow to the business interests of McGregor, a sad loss to the county in which he was so well known, and an affliction to his family and immediate friends that will be borne with the deepest sorrow. Mr. Ramage was a member of the common council, representing the second ward. He was a member of the United Workmen's Lodge, which he joined but a few weeks ago. The sympathies of all are with the afflicted family, and the city which now mourns the loss of one of her most noble, wealthy and influential citizens. He was born in Ohio, Nov. 28th, 1842; came to McGregor in 1866, and engaged as clerk to Louis Benton, Jr. In 1867 or '68 he became a partner with H. E. Newell, in the drug business, which partnership was dissolved in 1872, and the house of Peterson & Ramage created. Mr. Ramage had life insurance to the amount of $7,000 - $5,000 in the Northwestern to the benefit of his wife, and $2,000 in the A.O.U.W. for the benefit of his sister, Rebecca Ramage. All that is mortal of Jo. Ramage will be deposited by the side of Little Dottie on the hill overlooking the city with which his interests were so largely identified.
