The death of H. M. Jones is reported. He was formerly a resident of Littleport, in this county, and a gallant soldier in the late war. He emigrated to Nebraska in 1872, and was nominated for governor and defeated by a few votes. While in this county his occupation was mainly teaching school, but he practiced law to some extent while teaching at Communia.

Notes added by S. Ferrall 4/15/2018:

Henry Martin Jones, born in England, ca1823, was enumerated on the 1860 U.S. census living in Cox Creek twp. with his wife Sarah and 4 children. Also living with them is Sarah Smith who likely is Sarah Jones' mother. H.M. Jones served in Co. K, 1st IA Cav.
