The death of H. M. Jones is reported. He was formerly a resident of Littleport, in this county, and a gallant soldier in the late war. He emigrated to Nebraska in 1872, and was nominated for governor and defeated by a few votes. While in this county his occupation was mainly teaching school, but he practiced law to some extent while teaching at Communia.

Henry Martin Jones, born in England, ca1823, was enumerated on the 1860 U.S. census living in Cox Creek twp. with his wife Sarah and 4 children. Also living with them is Sarah Smith who likely is Sarah Jones' mother. H.M. Jones served in Co. K, 1st IA Cav.
