William Kann, an old pioneer resident of this county, died April 26th, 1907, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herman Schoulte, in Read twp., having reached the age of 85 years and 9 days.
He was born in Prussia, Germany, April 17, 1822. At the age of twenty-five he came to America and followed the occupation of farming. His marriage to Maria Schuerbrock took place the following year, 1848.
His interest was centered in Jefferson twp., and he was very instrumental in the progress of that community. Since the death of his wife which occurred about nine years ago he gave up active life and lived with his daughters Mrs. W.P. Uriell and Mrs. Herman Schoulte.
Of his ten children, five are living, namely: F.W. Kann and H.W. Kann, both residents of Jefferson twp., J.J. Kann, of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Herman Schoulte and Mrs. W.P. Uriell, of Read twp.
Funeral services were held Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic church, Rev. Father Raedler officiating. Interment took place in Jefferson twp., in the Kann cemetery near the old church in which deceased and family worshipped in years past.
