John Eilers Dies June 16
Former Resident of Guttenberg Dies In Dubuque
John Eilers of Dubuque, a former Guttenberg resident, died early Thursday morning, June 16 at a Dubuque hospital. He had been ill for six months, seriously so for the past five weeks.
The funeral was held Saturday morning at Sacred Heart church in Dubuque. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Mr. Eilers was born July 9, 1881 son of the late Bernard and Adelaide Schutte Eilers. He married Isabelle Scheidt on June 21, 1905. He moved to Dubuque 32 years ago and was employed in the Milwaukee railroad shops.
Surviving are his wife; two sons Arthur of Dubuque and Arnold of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Donovan of Dubuque; four granddaughters and a grandson.
Also surviving are five sisters: Mrs. Rosina Naber and Mrs. Anna Harter of Petersburg; Mrs. Ed Kruse and Miss Margaret Eilers of Dubuque; and Mrs. Chris Frommelt of Guttenberg; three brothers Peter of Dubuque; Henry of Galion, Ohio; and Otto of Sioux City.
