Elkader Register, Thur., 4 Aug. 1921.

Lester August Wilhelm Taake, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. August Taake, was born on August 9, 1905 in Read township and received the Holy rites of baptism, Dec. 10, 1905 through Rev. Linnenbuerger. After receiving his religious instruction in the doctrine of Holiness he was confirmed in the Ev. Lutheran Zions church here, through Rev. Pastor Athenstaedt, on the 13th of April, 1919, under the guidance and encouragement of his parents he faithfully held himself toward and sacrament after his confirmation and at visitations of his minister gladly received inspiration and consolation from the word of God, and from the prayer strength and new hope.

The beginning of his illness was April 23, of this year, with an attack of rheumatism and pneumonia, and during four weeks he was bedridden. A periodic convalescence followed and he could walk about in the house. However, a swelling of his lower limbs made it necessary for him to again take to his bed. Dropsy developed, making his condition more serious, and even though it seemed in the last few days of his life as if he were recovering, an unforeseen crises was at hand, which, on the 25 of July brought to him a sudden, though unusually gentle death. All that could be done, in the way of medical skill and loving care of parents was done for him to the fullest extent. Even in the eleventh hour of his fatal illness at a great sacrifice to his father, but it was a sacrifice given gladly and willingly to save, if possible, this precious life, a doctor, one of the best was called from the medical College of Iowa State University at Iowa City, but all to no avail.

For all the tender and loving care given him, he showed himself at all times thankful through an attitude of quietness and patience, but the Lord had decided it differently with and for him. His will is always and invariably the best, beneath it all bow and in it find consolation with the sorrowing ones in the sure Christian hope. "The lot is fallen unto him most precious, a beautiful heritage is his." His parents, two brothers, Waldo and Erwin, two sisters, Else and Loretta, and a host of relatives survive him and mourn his passing. He was 15 years, 11 months and 15 days.

The funeral was held from the home and in the church Wednesday, July 27, 1921, Rev. G. Weise officiating.
