Mrs. Sarah Jane Byrnes, (nee Quinn), died at Dubuque on the 16th day of this month. The cause of her death was heart failure.
She was born at Prairie du Chien, Wis., Sept 1st, 1857, and came to Clayton county with her parents when about two years old. They resided in Cox Creek township, and there she grew to womanhood.
On Oct. 6, 1885, she was united in marriage to John Byrnes, at the Sacred Heart church in Cox Creek. To this union five children were born They are as follows: Mrs. Mae Ba___s, Cox Creek; Mrs. Mildred Thyne, Littleport; Mrs. J. P. Knight, Fairmont, Minn.; James J. Byrnes, Corona, S.D.; and Robt. L. Byrnes, Dallas, Texas.
The funeral was held last Wednesday, Rev. Father Casey officiating and burial was made in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Cox Creek. A large number were present to pay their last tribute to the deceased.
The pallbearers were James Quinn, Lake Quinn, Ed Quinn, Donald Ivory and William Gleason.
Relatives and friends from elsewhere who attended the funeral were: R. V. Gleason, Waukon; Koth L. Barnes, Dallas, Texas; James J. Byrnes, Corona, S.D.; and Mrs. J. P. Knight of Fairmont, Minn.
The deceased was held in high regard by all who knew her. She leaves, besides her relatives, a host of friends by whom she will be sadly missed. Her's was a life of service and helpfulness to others and her character and many good deeds will not soon be forgotten.
