Elkader Register, Thur., 31 Mar. 1921.

Mrs. E. S. Halstenson died quite suddenly at 3:30 Wednesday morning, March 30, following a brief illness of but three days. The cause of death was acute strangulation of the bowels. She had been in rather poor health for several years but was able to be about and even a few hours before her death her condition was not considered alarming so that the end came as a shock to relatives and friends.

Marie Anderson was born in Marion township, Clayton county, Iowa, April 19, 1861, so that she had nearly reached her sixtieth birthday. She was the daughter of Berga and Annie Anderson and grew to womanhood on the home farm. On February 19, 1880, she was married to E. S. Halstenson of Marion township and they made their home on his farm in that township until 1908 when they moved to Elkader which has since been their home.

She is survived by her devoted husband, one daughter, Mrs. V. L. Gilje of Elkader and three grandchildren, also one brother, C. S. Anderson, of Wauss, Nebr., and two sisters, Mrs. B. F. Paige of West Union, Iowa, and Mrs. John Erickson of Elkader.

Mrs. Halstenson was a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend. She was a devout member of the Norwegian Lutheran church and her life was centered on her family, her church and her friends, by all of whom she will be seriously missed.

The funeral services will be held at 10:30 Saturday morning at the home and later at the Gunder church, Rev. N. Arvesen officiating. Interment will be in Gunder cemetery.
