Elkader Register, Thur., 3 Mar. 1921. Strawberry Point columns.

Anna M., daughter of John and Anne Cullen Hennssey, was born at Derby Cown, on Sept. 8th, and passed away at her home in Strawberry Point Feb. 24, 1921. She was the eldest of nine children, two brothers and two sisters having preceded her in death, in their childhood.

At the age of two years she moved with her parents to Delaware county, later moving to Fayette county and finally to Clayton county, where she completed her education in the Strawberry Point High School, fitting herself for the profession of teaching, her chosen work covering a period of thirteen years, spent in the schools of Clayton county. Her faithfulness and many acts of kindness endeared her to all, and the high esteem in which she was held by patrons and pupils was manifested by their constant demands upon her services. Realizing the need of her presence in the home, she happily went to assist father, mother and loved ones there proving to be a most dutiful daughter and affectionate sister, and when death entered their midst on July 4th, 1914, taking from them their beloved mother, Anna again, with ready helping hands and a loving heart cheerfully continued those duties and nobly performed her part, for home, church and society. Relatives noticing a gradual decline in health encouraged her in May 1916, to go to Oakdale Sanitarium where she remained a year, returning home feeling much better and hopeful of complete recovery. In the winter of 1919 she contracted the flu from which dread disease she never regained her usual strength and during the past year gradually failed and in spite of the best medical skill and loving care given her by her nurse, Miss Mary Blasen of Dubuque, a dear friend of the family, she continued to grow weaker daily until the tired spirit left the frail body to dwell among the blest. Her whole life was one filled with unselfish deeds and generous actions and she was a universal favorite with all who knew her. Throughout the long illness prior to her death she was the most patient of sufferers, never complaining and always cheerful, ready to meet her friends with a smile.

She had been a member of the Catholic church all her life and died in that faith, loving the church and its teachings, and being one of the most devout of its worshippers. The family, the church and the community have all suffered a distinct loss. She was a charter member of St. John's Court No. 976 W.C.O.F. and served until the time of her death as Chief Ranger and was also a loyal member of the Altar Society. Both organizations attended the funeral in a body.

She leaves besides her father, four brothers, Dr. F. A. Hennessy of Calmar, E. F. of Denver, Colo., who was unable to attend the funeral, M. J. and J. J. of Strawberry Point. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church at Strawberry Point on last Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock, after a short service at the home and were conducted by Father _. Casey who paid a beautiful tribute to the life of the deceased. The church was filled with friends from far and near who came to pay their last respects to the departed. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery on East Mission St.

(There followed a long list of individuals attending the funeral from afar, but no relationships were indicated. The deceased's surname was spelled two ways in the article. She is shown in WPA records as Anna M. Hennessy.)
