Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Feb. 1921.
Louis William, son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Becker, was born August 10th, 1908, in Elkader Iowa. As a babe and a boy he soon claimed and kept a place in the hearts of parents, relatives and friends - to know the boy, simply meant to like him. There was something in his speech and in his actions, which endeared him to others. As a real boy, he loved the out-of-door life and for the past few years, during summer vacation, the town had no inducements whatever, which would keep him from going to his relatives near Garnavillo where he enjoyed farm life. Like a little man he would go about his errands, because he was interested and his whole heart was in the work. As a natural result of the out-of-door life, he was always healthy and hardy, until Saturday afternoon, January 29th, when he complained of being very tired. The following day his temperature indicated fever, and on Monday it turned into pluro-pneumonia. The best of care that his mother and two trained nurses could give him proved of no avail. It was always hoped that his hardy condition would be in his favor. Even on Tuesday morning of this week it seemed as if the dreaded crisis of the ninth day had passed, when about the middle of the afternoon a sudden change in the condition of the patient caused grave concern. Peritonitis had set in. This proved more than the young body could endure and at six o'clock that evening another soul had answered the final summons; closed was the book of a brief life of twelve years, five months and twenty-eight days of Louis William Becker.
His departure is mourned by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Becker, one brother, Earl, student at the Iowa State University, two sisters, Mae and Katherine, at home; the grandmothers, Mrs. K. Becker and Mrs. Henry Brandt, and other relatives. He will be missed in his class in school and Sunday School, by his playmates and friends, for he was a favorite with young and old.
May God comfort you, the bereaved parents, brother, sisters, and all loved ones. Now, as never before, angel hands beckon you onward, angel voices will speak to you in the silent hours of trial, and angel smiles will cheer you in the dark valley. And doubly sweet will it be remembered that in the angelic host is one you loved and gave up to God. The light of Christian faith and hope will cause you to look Heavenward from whence a voice is saying, "It is well with the child."
Funeral service will be held tomorrow afternoon at one-thirty o'clock at the home and two o'clock at the Ev. Church, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment will be made in East Side cemetery.
