Clayton County Register, Wed., 18 Dec. 1935.
Mrs. L. C. Hanlon, formerly Briggie Direen, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, at her home in Willard, N. Mex.
She was born in St. Louis, Mo., Dec. 25, 1856, and would have been 79 had she lived 23 more days. She was married to L. C. Hanlon on January 7th, 1880, at Elkader and lived at Wadena from that time until 1890 when she moved with her family to Oelwein. There she resided until November, 1906, and then she moved with her family to Waterloo, where she resided until April, 1908, after which she moved to Willard, where she died.
There were born to this union eight children. Two preceded her in death, and four boys and two girls survive together with the husband, who is mayor of Willard. All the children live in New Mexico except F. J. Hanlon who lives in Waterloo. Burial was in Willard on Dec. 5, one of the largest funerals held in that town, which showed the respect in which she was held by all.
She has a brother and two sisters living in Volga City: L. C., Katie, and Statia Direen.
