August Carl Wilkes Lenth was born in Farmersburg township on December 24, 1871, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. December 16, 1896, he was married to Miss Amelia Hagensick of Read township. He was engaged in the hardware business in St. Olaf from 1896 to 1902 when they moved to Monona where they lived the past thirty-three years.
Mr. Lenth served on the city council for 12 years and was active in town affairs, always working for the welfare of the community. He was honest, industrious, a kind friend, a good husband and a faithful church member. He had been in poor health the past weeks and was taken to Rochester where an emergency operation was performed, but passed away Sunday, October 20, at the age of 63 years, nine months and 28 days. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in Monona the following (The remainder on this sentence/paragraph was missing.).
Surviving him are the widow, Mrs. Amelia Lenth; three brothers, Herman Lenth of Elkader and John and Frank Lenth of Monona.
