Clayton County Register, Thur., 24 Oct. 1935.
Samuel V. Younkman died at his home in Elkport last week Wednesday, October 16, at 12:40 a.m. About a year ago the deceased complained that he was not feeling as well as he should, and in December of last year he was taken to a Dubuque hospital where he submitted to an operation on January 1st. Shortly after he returned home.
During his long illness he complained little. All possible was done to make his remaining days of suffering bearable and his loved ones were ever ready to do what they could for him. Especially was this true of his beloved wife who waited on him untiringly and uncomplainingly.
Samuel Vern Younkman, son of Henry and Minnie (Gruetzmacher) Younkman, was born at National February 19, 1874, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 61 years, seven months and 27 days. With his parents he lived his boyhood days on the farm. In later years he moved to Arlington where he engaged in the livery business. Thirty-three years ago he moved to Elkport where he spent the remainder of his life.
October 17, 1906, he was united in marriage with Vera Kriebs and Elkport continued to be their home. Mr. Younkman was well liked by all who came in contact with him. For a number of years he was connected with the Kriebs Drug store.
He is survived by his wife and three sisters, namely: Mrs. Henry Oldfather, Fayette; Mrs. Joe Oldfather, Arlington, and Miss Elsie Younkman, also of Arlington.
Funeral services were held last Friday with burial in Mt. Harmony cemetery, the Rev. F. E. Damm officiating. The casketbearers were Lawrence Waterman, Geo. L. Gifford, Frank Phillips, Joe Oldfather and Henry Oldfather. The services were attended by a large number of people, attesting to the high esteem in which he was held.
