Alexander Ferris, highly regarded pioneer resident of Clayton county, passed away at his home near Millville on Saturday morning at 2 o'clock at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 20 days, following an illness of long duration. Ferris was born at Cassville, Wis., on Nov. 8, 1854, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Ferris. When a child he came to Millville township, Clayton county, Iowa, with his father, where he spent the remainder of his life. On Feb. 9, 1876, he was married to Miss Ellen Bretz, who preceded him in death on April 7, 1930. Mr. Ferris was successfully engaged in farming for many years.

He is survived by nine children, Clarks Ferris of Edgely, N.D.; Orin Ferris of North Andover, Wis.; Fred, Robert and Raymond Ferris of Millville township; Mrs. Ada Rutherford of Greeley; Mrs. Myrtle Miller of Guttenberg; and the Misses Mabel and Neva Ferris of Millville township; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Three children, Joseph, Jennie and Earl Ferris, have also preceded the father in death.

Funeral services were held at the Goshen church in Millville township on Monday afternoon, with burial in the Goshen cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near.
