Clayton County Register, Thur., 19 Sept. 1935.

Jacob Schweikert, son of John Schweikert and his wife Wilhelmine, nee Trausch, was born March 2, 1859, in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa.

On September 28, 1884, he was united in marriage to Luscetta Borrett and to this union three children were born, one dying in infancy.

The deceased lived on a farm until 30 years ago when he moved to Elkport, doing various kinds of work as draying, carrying the mail, etc. The deceased was ambitious and up early to do what he could. In later years one could notice he was aging and in the last year he began to fail, when on Aug. 12, 1935, he fell as he was working.

With complications caused from various sources, he gradually became worse, until Sept. 7, 1935, at 6:00 p.m., when he died at the age of 76 years, six months and five days.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife; J. E. Schweikert, Guttenberg; Mrs. Gladys Hohman, Elkport; D. A. Borrett, Osterdock; T. H. Borrett, Jesup; two brothers, John and Paul, of Garber; and eight sisters, Mrs. Kate Combs, Elkport; Mrs. Lottie Boardman, Dubuque; Mrs. Minnie Brasch, Norfolk, Nebr.; Mrs. Anna Montgomery, Mrs. Irene Lyons, Mrs. Rose Nibbs, all of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Bertha Kennedy, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Martha Wood, Port Angelos, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren that will miss his smiling countenance.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the home of the deceased at 10:00 a.m. and at 10:30 at the Lutheran church, Elkport, with interment at Mt. Harmony cemetery. Rev. F. E. Damm officiated.
