John J. Thompson died at the City House on Saturday, January 3. For years he had been a suffer from Asthma, for the relief of which he was smoking medicine on the porch about eleven o'clock the night before when last seen alive. He returned to his bed and evidently passed away without a struggle. His health had been feeble and failing for months, yet his death came unexpetedly. He was a native of England. He came to America some thirty-three years ago and settled in this neighborhood, and here he spent much of his life. For several years he was employed as a bookkeeper in McGregor, Iowa. and in Detroit (Ohio). Mr. Thompson was an agreeable, polite and honest man and in his calling had few superiors. One brother residing in Michigan, and many acquaintences will miss the sad and quiet old gentleman. Funeral services took place at the M. E. Church on Sunday the services being conducted by Rev. L. U. McKee.
