Death of H. D. Evans.
H. D. Evans, the first post master of McGregor, died at his home in that City September 13, in the 74th year of his age. He became a resident of McGregor in 1848 and resided there to the time of his death.—Cresco P. D.It is to be added that Mr. Evans was the sincere friend and helper of more pioneer settlers than any other man in N. E. Iowa. In those days when few had money and but little credit, he, as a merchant trusted the needy most generously. We don’t know, but venture to guess he died not rich in this world's goods; but there are hundreds on hundreds of homes in all this corner of the state where kindly recollections of him still exist.
