Clayton County Register, Thur., 16 May 1935. Guttenberg column.

Mrs. Frank Wathen (nee Clara Woodington), long-time resident of this community, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Wentworth, in Guttenberg, Sunday evening at 11:55 o'clock. She had been in failing health for some time previous to her death. She was 66 years, seven months and 9 days of age when the angle of death called her to the great beyond.

Mrs. Wathen was born at Cassville, Wis., on Oct. 3, 1868, where she received her education and grew to womanhood. She was married at Cassville to Frank Wathen, who preceded her in death 17 years ago. For some time the family resided in Millville township, Clayton county, Iowa. Since the year 1921, she had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Earl Wentworth, where she always received the tenderest of care. Mrs. Wathen was a kind and loving mother, sister and friend, and her memories will be forever cherished by all.

Her death is deeply mourned by one daughter, Mrs. Earl Wentworth, of Guttenberg; one son, Julius Wathen, of Chicago, Ill.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Milo Pritchett, of Beetown, Wis.; six grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Clarke Teasdale, of LaCrosse, Wis., Mrs. Setta Webb and Mrs. Lina Acherman of Cassville, Wis., and many other relatives and friends by whom this worthy mother will be sadly missed.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Zike of Colesburg, at the Wentworth home in Guttenberg on Wednesday morning, after which the body was taken to Cassville, Wis., where services were held at the Baptist church there. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Beetown, Wis. The funeral was largely attended, which showed that deceased was held in high regard by all who knew her.
