Guttenberg: Mrs. John Troester, Sr., nee Emma Troester, one of this community's worthy mothers and long-time residents, passed away at her home in Jefferson township Monday evening, at the age of 69 years, seven months and 22 days. Her health had been failing her for the past two years.
Mrs. Troester was born in Schmoeltz, Bavaria, Germany, on September 14th, 1865, where she received her education. A number of years ago she came to America settling in Millville township, Clayton county, Iowa. On November 24th, 1885, she was married to Mr. John Troester. After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm in Jefferson township, where the deceased spent the remainder of her life. Mrs. Troester was one of a pleasing personality, held in high esteem by all who knew her. She liked to do acts of kindness for her family and friends, by whom her memories will be forever cherished.
Her death is deeply mourned by her husband; eleven children, George of Millville township, Fred of Strawberry Point, Gus, Louis, Alvin and Emil and Mrs. George Thiese of Jefferson township, Henry of Minnesota, Mrs. William Bruening and Earl of Guttenberg, and Herman of Jefferson township; a number of grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Petsche, Mrs. Fred Meyer, and Mrs. Fred Schaal, of Guttenberg; one brother, John Friedlein of Cassville, Wis.; and many other relatives and friends by whom this good woman will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. W. J. F. Adix, pastor of St. John's American Lutheran church of Guttenberg, at the Troester home in Jefferson township this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:00 o'clock with interment in the city cemetery here. One son, Otto, World War veteran, preceded the mother in death during the World War, while in service overseas.
